Mole
Sergio Rodrigues 1961

It’s hard to imagine a more inviting easychair. With its lush leather upholstery and solid conical legs, Mole offers a steadfast refuge from any kind of everyday stress. It is a maximum (and combined with the matching foodstool wickedly comfortable) counterpoint to the minimalism of Modernism. Perhaps that explains why the saucy upstart has had a place for decades in the permanent design collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. In 1961 Mole, which has also been sold under the name “Sheriff”, won the Concorso Internazionale del Mobile in Italy, suddenly focusing international attention on Brazilian design.
