The story of a classic
For her house ‘Maison en bord de mer’ in Roquebrune, Côte d’Azur, Eileen Gray designed what is probably her most famous piece of furniture, the Adjustable Table.
She named her height-adjustable side table, made of chrome-plated tubular steel with a glass top, E 1027, after her house.
E stands for ‘Eileen’, 10 for ‘J’ (the tenth letter in the alphabet), 2 for ‘B’ (the initials of her partner Jean Badovici) and 7 for ‘G’, or Gray.
