Straw is another innovative and sustainable material in our collection – natural and full of unexpected effects. It features in selected pieces from Sebastian Herkner’s Bell Table series, including the Bell Side Table and Bell Coffee Table. In these editions, intricate straw marquetry augments the series with a particularly sophisticated, handcrafted dimension. Each surface is meticulously created by applying fine strips of straw in a radial pattern, expanding across the table top like rays of sunlight. The natural variations in tone give rise to a vivid, almost three-dimensional effect. Warm and organic, the character of straw forms a striking contrast to the glass base, producing shimmering reflections that accentuate the table’s iconic silhouette. The straw panels are sourced from one of the oldest straw manufacturers in the world. Only very few people still master this traditional technique – estimates suggest fewer than ten. Through this collaboration, we not only support a unique craft, but also actively contribute to preserving regional production culture and forstering sustainable design.
