Eileen Gray's E.1027 is in the cinemas - a must for every interested person

"She built a house for herself. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a masterpiece," reads the film poster for the elaborately filmed documentary "E.1027 - Eileen Gray and the House by the Sea".

The film highlights the creation of the famous Villa E.1027, which Eileen Gray created in 1929 on the Mediterranean coast near Monaco and which is now regarded as an iconic work of art by the designer. Selected pieces – furniture, lamps and carpets – were provided by ClassiCon for the film shoot. The film therefore captures both the history of the famous villa and some of her furniture designs in breathtaking images. Many of her current design classics were designed for this house and are still in the ClassiCon portfolio today.

VILLA E.1027 – A discreet, avant-garde masterpiece

E.1027, a cryptic combination of Eileen Gray's initials and those of her lover Jean Badovici, with whom she realised the house. Today, the house near Monaco - also known as "Maison en Bord de Mer" - is considered an icon of modern architecture. The viewer is immersed in a story about the power of female expression and the desire of men to control it. The actress breathes life into the film character Eileen Gray by reflecting her irrepressible creative power, but also her doubts in the conflict with her seemingly overpowering male counterparts Jean Badovici and Le Corbusier. A special cinematic highlight is original footage from an interview with the elderly Eileen Gray, who speaks at the end of the film.

With her theories on design and architecture, she left an indelible mark on our ideas about living; her work is considered the epitome of Modernism. Gray’s tubular steel furniture, revolutionary at the time of their creation, are considered classics today. Her Adjustable Table E1027 is one of the most famous and most-copied designs in the world and is one of the bestsellers in the ClassiCon collection.
