Pailla was designed by Eileen Gray for her Villa E1027 on the Côte d’Azur – an architectural masterpiece which resulted in some of her most important furniture designs. Reduced to socket and bulb, directly mounted on the wall, Pailla, like many installations, folding mechanisms or decors in E1027, is reminiscent of the interiors of ocean liners. The simple form can be used on its own or lined up easily. The reflecting surface of the chrome-plated version adds shiny highlights to any room. The black matte version, added in 2022, makes Pailla even more versatile in its use and a perfect match with the black classics from the Eileen Gray collection.

Eileen Gray’s achievement in design and architecture is considered pioneering work of Modernism. During her lifetime, she was honoured by the London Royal Society for Arts with the title Royal Designer for Industry, and she is one of few women mentioned in the same breath as Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe and Marcel Breuer. ClassiCon produces her iconic furniture designs as the sole and rightful licensee worldwide, in coordination with Aram Designs Ltd., London.
